This home has now been in the family for two generations and needed updating, but maintaining a connection to its original character and the family's history was critical. Space to display the owner's craft collection and room for food-focused entertaining were also important factors.
The new design echos the home's midcentury roots with clean lines, open pass-thru display shelving, and vertical grain walnut. To bring in light, we removed an old wood fireplace and dated window bump out and opened the breakfast nook up with a corner full of over-sized windows -- a move which also allowed us to add vertical wood siding at the front entry, freshening up the home's exterior as well.

Kitchen & Bath Remodel
A once cramped kitchen and bathroom with poor lighting, dated cabinets, and dropped soffits is now open, bright, and fresh - yet remains in keeping with the home's midcentury roots.
Features include: geometric tile, vertical grain white oak cabinets, open shelving, and reeded glass cabinet doors.
Note the heavy dropped soffits in the kitchen and the bump out for the entry closet that we removed as part of the work.

This small contemporary home was originally planned as vacation home but soon became the owner's full time residence.
Features include: exposed concrete slab floors and vaulted ceilings throughout, board formed concrete walls, custom aluminum sunshades, advanced energy performance, coreten steel double-sided fireplace, and a sunken bathtub with views through 16' sliding glass doors to Mt Hood...

Extensive Remodel and Restoration at Existing Home
Nearly every finish and fixture at this Portland area bungalow needed removal and replacement. Interior walls were reworked for a more functional kitchen, french doors were added at the dining and master bedroom, and new windows and floor finishes throughout.
In keeping with the craftsman tradition, we added layers of trim and multiple siding types to the final design, then opted for a dark saturated coral color for the main body of the house. Clear stained cedar is used for the front porch and belly band, with dark stained knee braces installed at the gables.
Other features: double rake at the front porch, multi level decks with varying slat width patterns, built in seating at side entry, and new wood windows and doors throughout.
